The sun still rises over the grass,
birds still chirp songs with no melody.
But the shingles are falling off of the rooftop
and no one is there to fix them.
Nature has made a firm invasion of the house,
squirrels nesting in the microwave,
termites burrowing into the hardwood floors.
Maggots eat through the pile of matted fur on the floor,
once a lovable tabby-cat.
All around there is quiet beauty,
but no one is there to see it.
